Airlines Amenity Kits Flying

REVIEW: Cathay Pacific Premium Class Amenity Kits 2017

Cathay Pacific, Hong Kong’s national flag carrier, may not be doing so well financially. But they sure have class when it comes to their amenity kits onboard its international long haul flights. We got our hands on the airline’s latest amenity kits for business class and premium economy that come in different sizes and colours as well as their Aesop First Class Amenity kits.

Cathay Pacific First Class

Cathay Pacific’s First Class amenity kit is one of my favourite amenity kits, just because I am a huge fan of Aēsop products. It was first launched in 2015 replacing the Trussardi amenity kits for women containing the same Aesop products as the new kit and Ermenegildo Zegna bag for men containing Acca Kappa products.

The contents come in a flatter wash bag which unzips upwards to unveil the Aēsop products, cloth, a toothbrush, Colgate toothpaste and mouthwash. These wash bags make great containers for cuff links, rings and jewellery.

The ladies get a lighter brown kit with a hair brush, 15ml Aēsop Camellia Nut Facial Hydrating Cream containing a complex blend of nut and plant extracts that gets instantly absorbed, 15ml Aēsop Rind Concentrate Hand & Body Balm for all skin types. It is boosted with citrus, aloe and carrot extracts. There is also a 6ml Aēsop Rosehip Seed Lip Cream. This is a non-greasy, readily absorbed cream rich in Vitamin E to hydrate and nourish your lips without leaving a sticky barrier.  The ladies kit for flights departing from Hong Kong come with an Aēsop Camel top zip case while flights to Hong Kong distribute kits with flaps so that they can be stacked on top of each other.

The men’s dark grey kit contains 15ml Aesop Camellia Nut Facial Hydrating Cream, 5ml Aesop Rosehip Seed Lip Cream and a comb.

Cathay Pacific Business Class

The new business class wash bags are pretty nifty and more functional than the previous kits launched in 2015 which open up to become a tablet holder created by the same manufacturer. The new wash bags designed by Seventy Eight Percent come in different colours and sizes which do not differentiate by gender. Seventy Eight Percent uses top-quality Japanese fabrics and Italian leather to create functional bags and accessories. Its designers adapt the qualities of outdoor gear to the urban environment while its design philosophy is to keep things simple; love their job and are passionate about the things they do and believe that the planet’s landfills are full enough.

We got two different kit designs which are also available in different colours. Simple, well-designed yet maintaining elegance, these kits are keepers. Really useful for storing just about anything.

The Jurlique products are not heavily scented. Each kit contains a 3ml Herbal Recovery Advanced serum that is rich with over 18 botanical extracts to help improve elasticity and hydration and restore radiance. The 5ml lip care balm moisturises dry and chapped lips. The 5ml Rosewater Balancing Mist is designed to help improve skin tone, moisture levels and skin balance. These Jurlique products complement the toiletries available in the Business Class cabin onboard. There are the Balancing Foaming Cleanser, Citrus Purifying Mist and a Citrus Body Care Lotion.

Cathay Pacific Premium Economy

In Premium Economy, customers get a simple rectangular canvas bag with a zipper on the top that contains a toothbrush and a one-time use tube of toothpaste, earplugs, eye mask as well as socks to keep your feet warm. Hong Kong graphic designer Danny Yung’s printed designs are on the inside of the bag with different designs making them collector’s items. These kits are supplied by FORMIA and they replace the black and white amenity kits from Hong Kong lifestyle brand Goods of Desire (G.O.D.) which had different designs every six months so they become collectables.

We do prefer the older kits which were first introduced in October 2012 and the amenity bag was made from at least 90% recycled bottles and you could collect them and each kit comes with a button at the back which lets you attach additional kits at the back to eventually create a wall-hanging accessory.
