Streamlined Travel Convenience: Introducing Off-airport Check-In Service at Kansai International Airport by Airporter and MUIC Kansai

Airporter, Inc. and MUIC Kansai (Kansai Innovation Centre) have launched the first off-airport check-in service in Japan at Kansai International Airport. This service is designed to enhance the efficiency of outbound travel by facilitating the direct transportation of luggage from hotels or specified drop-off locations to departure airports within Japan and subsequently to international arrival airports.

A 3-month trial and proof of concept project conducted with JAL users departing from Kansai International Airport yielded positive results, prompting Airporter and MUIC Kansai to explore future collaborations with prominent Asian airlines frequently chosen by international travellers visiting Japan.

Airporter extends its same-day luggage delivery service between airports and hotels to international airports, offering a seamless “hands-free travel” experience from hotels to overseas arrival airports. By integrating Airporter’s same-day luggage delivery with airlines’ online check-in services, this initiative supports the digitisation of boarding procedures, minimising lengthy queues.

Looking ahead, Airporter and MUIC Kansai aim to amplify their services, with Expo 2025 Osaka, Kansai as a significant milestone. The duo envisions the development of dedicated equipment for installation in hotels, stations, and other key locations. This innovation would allow passengers to conveniently check in their luggage at designated points within the city, enhancing the overall travel experience.
