Over 30 Marriott International’s Luxury Hotels to Debut in 2020

Marriott International Inc expects to open over 30 luxury properties in 2020 as it focuses on its portfolio of distinct luxury brands to create the future of high-end travel. That’s an average of around three new hotels per month.

The Ritz-Carlton, Ritz-Carlton Reserve, St. Regis Hotels & Resorts, W Hotels, The Luxury Collection, EDITION, JW Marriott and Bvlgari are some of the many brands under Marriott International. Its network of over 420 landmark hotels and resorts in close to 65 countries and territories provide an unmatched variety of luxury experiences.

Marriott International has over 185 luxury properties in its signed development pipeline which could add over 15 new countries and territories to its luxury portfolio from Iceland to Montenegro and the Philippines.

The Ritz-Carlton

The 100th Ritz-Carlton property made its debut in November 2019 in Perth, Australia. The Ritz-Carlton, Perth is part of the Elizabeth Quay development, with 205 guestrooms including 19 suites, overlooking Swan River and Kings Park. The fourth Ritz-Carlton Reserve in the world, Zadún in Los Cabos, Mexico also made its debut this year.

In 2020, The Ritz-Carlton properties are planned to open in Rabat in Dar es Salam, Nikko in Japan, Mexico City Paradise Valley in Scottsdale Arizona and Nanjing in China. Major renovation works at The Ritz-Carlton, South Beach in Miami, Florida is expected to be completed in 2020. The inaugural voyage of The Ritz-Carlton Yacht Collection is expected in June 2020.

St. Regis

The St. Regis Venice recently opened with 169 guestrooms and suites in October 2019 near the Piazza San Marco with the largest water frontage in Venice. The former Grand Hotel Britannia which opened in 1895 underwent a two-year, full-scale renovation.

To date, there are 45 St. Regis hotels and resorts in over 20 countries and territories. New properties expected to open in 2020 include Cairo, the St. Regis Kanai Resort in Riviera Maya, Mexico and the St. Regis Dubai, The Palm in the UAE.

W Hotels

W Abu Dhabi – Yas Island (Marriott International photo)

W Hotels made its debut in the UAE Capital with W Abu Dhabi – Yas Island in November 2019 making it the only hotel in the world located atop a Grand Prix racetrack.

W Hotels properties have also opened in Dubai, Muscat, Ibiza and Aspen. Multi-million-dollar renovations by owners are underway or completed at more than half the brand’s properties in North America including W Washington D.C. and W San Francisco. W New York – Union Square will be transformed into a cutting-edge W Hotels showcase.

In 2020, new W properties are expected to open in Philadelphia, Toronto, Chengdu and Melbourne. It is also slated to debut in Italy with the planned openings of W Milan and W Rome.

The W Toronto has been undergoing a US$40 million design transformation since July 2019. The 9-storey, 255-room property at 90 Bloor Street East in Toronto’s fashionable Yorkville neighbourhood will be surrounded by high-end boutiques, galleries, and design studios as well as chic cafes, polished bars and fine-dining restaurants. W Toronto is expected to open in Summer 2020.

In December 2019, Marriott International just signed an agreement with Landmark Sabbour to open a W Hotel in Cairo Egypt in 2024.

EDITION

In 2019, The Times Square EDITION in New York and The West Hollywood EDITION in Los Angeles made their debut. The West Hollywood EDITION is the only West Coast location in the EDITION collection and the 10th EDITION hotel opening.

In 2020, a new EDITION will open in Reykjavik, the capital of Iceland as well as Tokyo and Dubai.

The Luxury Collection

There are 114 hotels in over 30 countries and territories around the world with The Luxury Collection branding. In 2019, the brand celebrated the opening of North Island, Seychelles as well as properties in Cyprus, Nanning, Buckinghamshire, Kolkata and Çeşme.

In 2020, new properties will open in Nashville and Budapest, Hungary as well as Hobart, Australia.

JW Marriott

JW Marriott Edmonton ICE District made its debut in August 2019 in the heart of downtown Edmonton, Canada. This property is the 250th Marriott property and the third JW Marriott in Canada to open.

The JW Marriott Maldives Resort and Spa also made its debut in November 2019. Located just 55 minutes via seaplane from the capital of Male, Maldives, the new resort features 60 spacious villas, starting at 234 sqm. These villas come with private pools and wooden sunbathing decks. Duplex overwater pool villas and single-storey overwater pool villas are set on stilts overlooking clear turquoise waters of the Indian Ocean with a choice of sunrise or sunset views. There are also Beach pool villas and Duplex Beach Pool Villas.

In 2020, planned US openings include Savannah, Orlando and Anaheim. Global destinations include Istanbul, Danang in Vietnam, Nara in Japan, Muscat in Oman and Monterrey in Mexico.
