From one General Post office to Another. The Fullerton Hotel Sydney To Open on 18 October 2019.

The Fullerton Hotels & Resorts will open its first property outside of Singapore on 18 October 2019. The Fullerton Hotel Sydney has taken over the General Post Office building in Sydney which was previously a Westin property. The world’s first Fullerton Hotel located in Singapore (pictured above) was also once home to the country’s General Post Office.

Both the Fullerton Hotel Singapore and Fullerton Bay Hotel Singapore are in Singapore’s Fullerton Heritage precinct which is made up of seven historic and contemporary buildings in the heart of the civic, financial and cultural district. Similarly, in Sydney, The Fullerton Hotel Sydney is situated in Martin Place, in Sydney’s CBD. It will be minutes away from the city’s cultural and arts precincts, retail centres, dining destinations and boutique bar scenes. Major landmarks are only 15 minutes away by foot. They include the Sydney Opera House, The Art Gallery of New South Wales, Museum of Contemporary Art and the historic Rocks district.

The General Post Office was first constructed in 1866 and opened in 1874. Today this heritage-listed building with a neoclassical architecture is located in Martin Place, Sydney.

The first phase of remediation works on the façade of this historic sandstone building began in April 2019 and is expected to be completed in time for the Hotel’s official opening in October. The chemical-free cleaning process is estimated to take over 38,000 working hours by highly trained specialists who will use steam, water and scrubbing brushes to remove accumulated layers of dirt. They will be careful not to alter the sandstone’s natural patina.

Guests at the Fullerton Hotel Sydney can enjoy bespoke experiences with a home away from home feel and genuine service and discreet luxury by the Fullerton team. The Fullerton Experiences is a bespoke programme created for The Fullerton Hotels and Resorts allowing guests to discover a different side of the city they are in through guided activities, excursions and experiences. Complimentary heritage tours of the hotel for guests and the public will be offered from the opening weekend.

The GPO Clock used to be an iconic rendezvous point from the mid-20th century. The hotel intends to recreate this when it opens with plans to host community events at the Hotel starting with launch celebrations in October.

The Fullerton Hotel Sydney is going high tech with an e-Compendium tablet in guest rooms which runs Tapendium, a technology solution that provides digital concierge services. Guests can place dinner reservations, book spa treatments, schedule a taxi or arrange a laundry pick-up service from the tablet. The e-Compendium replaces the thick printed compendium folders found in many hotels which are often a waste of space and not so environmentally friendly when the pages need to be reprinted with updated information. I hope that one day the tablet’s services would be expanded to one day allow guests to choose what channels on television to watch, adjust the temperature for the airconditioning or control the room’s lights.
