Etihad Airways Sells First Class Amenity Kits and Sleepwear

Etihad Airways has recently announced that it will be selling its First Class Amenity Kits and Christian Lacroix cotton sleepwear to its guests in other classes of travel. A move that reduces the exclusivity for these items for customers flying in the airline’s First Class cabins including The Apartments or The Residence which were once the talk of the town. Etihad Airways was the first to launch such luxurious First Class cabins for its customers before Emirates and Singapore Airlines followed suit only recently in the past few months.

The level of luxury has been exclusive to those who could afford in the airline’s Airbus A380 aircraft and we feel sad that the airline has to resort to selling its amenity kits and sleepwear as additional ancillary income.

The Christian Lacroix amenity kits feature skin care products by Hungarian skincare brand Omorovicza. These kits were launched in 2016 replacing the  Sadou-weave design amenity kits that contained Le Labo skincare products. The kits are available in editions for men and women. The wash bags are designed exclusively by Christian Lacroix and feature water proof exterior and a cloth lining on the inside. The plum debossed fold over washbag can also be used as a clutch while the men’s kit unbuttons into a pouch that can hold a tablet or other electronic devices.

The four Omorovicza products are stored in a zipper pouch that can be used as a coin or key pouch. There is a tube of lightly scented Nourishing Hand Treatment, Balancing Moisturiser cooling gel cream, Perfecting Lip Balm and a Cleansing Wipe towelette. We tested the products and find that the fragrance is not too overpowering. Found in previous first class amenity kits, the Sleep Relax Kit that contains a Pillow Mist and Pulse Point Oil are also included these new amenity kits. These have been provided to help guests on board feel relaxed and sleep better.

Five other sealed packs are included in the kit. A sleep pack contains friction-padded socks and a pair of soft-cloth padded eyeshades with velcro straps. A care pack contains cotton pads, earbuds and an emery board. There is also a shaving pack, a comb pack, a pair of earplugs, a dental pack containing a toothbrush with a cover and Colgate toothpaste.

The amenity kits will be sold in all cabins for ultra long haul (ULH) sectors for USD22/AED88 while the Christian Lacroix branded sleepwear will be sold at USD35/AED130. We searched eBay and saw a sale of the amenity kit for US$59 with free shipping.

The airline will also be selling cold brewed coffee from Coffee Planet at USD4 or AED15 a glass for flights on Paris, London and all Australian sectors in Economy Class. Piper-Heidsieck Cuvee Brut NV champagne will be sold in Economy Class on all long haul and ultra-long haul sectors except US at USD8 or AED30 per glass.

In January 2018, a Snack Box featuring both sweet and healthy snacks to suit guests’ differing tastes and cravings will be introduced.

Linda Celestino, Vice President Guest Experience and Delivery, said: “Etihad Airways is always looking at new ways to give our guests more power and control over their experience, through options to customise and personalise their journey.

“In addition to providing extra comfort and choice in the air, some of the items are great gift ideas, particularly in the run up to the holiday season. We will monitor guest satisfaction and aim to expand the range of items for sale in the future.”
