Cathay Partners with Shinsegae Duty Free for Strategic Expansion in the Korean Market

Cathay Pacific will become the first foreign airline to sign a business agreement with Shinsegae Duty Free, one of the top three duty-free shops in Korea. Cathay members will be able to earn Asia Miles when shopping at Shinsegae Duty Free from February 2024.

Paul Smitton, Cathay Director of Customer Lifestyle and CEO of Asia Miles, Donald Morris, Country Manager Korea and Shin Yeol Yoo, CEO of Shinsegae Duty Free attended the signing ceremony on 19 December 2023 at the Westin Chosun Hotel in Seoul.

Under the partnership, Cathay members can accumulate 1 Asia Mile for every KRW1,000 expended on duty-free acquisitions at Shinsegae Duty Free. Additionally, a supplementary 250 Asia Miles is granted for transactions exceeding KRW300,000. These earned miles are flexible and can be used to redeem various rewards and experiences across Cathay’s extensive network of 800 travel and lifestyle partners globally.

Cathay members are entitled to exclusive benefits, such as special discounts, featuring an e-voucher with a shopping allowance and diverse coupons applicable at Shinsegae Duty Free, totalling approximately KRW340,000. Furthermore, Shinsegae Duty Free prepaid cards are available for purchase through Cathay’s online shop using Asia Miles. Additionally, passengers flying with Cathay Pacific to Korea will receive a distinct e-voucher with a shopping allowance specifically for use at Shinsegae Duty Free.
