11 April 2023 marks the 100-day countdown to the biggest women’s sporting event on the planet – FIFA Women’s World Cup Australia & New Zealand 2023 kicks off across nine cities in two countries.
Brisbane is the host city for eight of the 64 football matches.
To celebrate this milestone, FIFA unveiled a new tournament chant and released additional tickets to World Cup matches.
The tournament chant is called the FIFA Beat. It was developed to unify football fans and non-fans around the world and energise them ahead of this year’s historic tournament. The FIFA Beat is anticipated to become a stadium favourite in the same way that Ole, Ole, Ole, has become the anthem for international football spectators. Brisbane football fans responded to the new chant with a practice session in front of iconic city backdrops.
Brisbane has kicked of a six-day football activation with the arrival today of the Unity Pitch at King George Square. The Unity Pitch is a scaled-back football field made up of a patchwork of FIFA brand colours that reflect the local cultures and the coming together of the 32 nations participating in this year’s cup. From 11 – 16 April 2023, visitors to the pop-up pitch can watch exhibition matches and practice football drills using the official tournament ball. Tazuni, the tournament mascot, and Matilda’s Active, the Matilda’s fan squad, will also make special appearances on the pitch.
Held every four years, 32 nations compete on the international stage for the Championship title at the FIFA Women’s World Cup. The ninth edition of the tournament will be played across 10 different stadiums and nine cities.
Brisbane / Meanjin will host eight FIFA Women’s World Cup 2023 games over July and August, marking the first global event to be held in the city since Time Magazine ranked Brisbane among the “50 most extraordinary destinations to explore in 2023” thanks to its attributes of ‘sports’ and ‘sun’. The FIFA Women’s World Cup is yet another world-class event hosted by Brisbane in the runway to the Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
Last-Minute Sales to secure seats will commence at 12 pm on 11 April. Tickets to the matches staged in Brisbane can be purchased via www.fifa.com/brisbanetickets.
