Thailand Rewards One Millionth Singaporean Visitor in 2018


Tourism Authority of Thailand, Singapore (TAT) Office’s “Dear Singaporeans, Thanks A Million” campaign concluded on 21 December 2018 when Ms. Angela Kwek Sui Hoon was named the millionth Singaporean to arrive in Thailand.

This is three days after Thailand received its first 10 millionth Chinese visitor in a year. On 13th December, Thailand received its first 1 millionth visitor from Vietnam. All these visitors landed in Bangkok on board Thai Airways flights.

Last year, Thailand received its first million Singaporean citizen for its first time. Singapore’s current population of 3.5 million citizens produced 1.02 million Singaporean arrivals to Thailand in 2017. The average length of stay was 5.4 days with average expenditure estimated at THB35,000 per person per trip.

To welcome this year’s millionth Singaporean citizen, TAT launched the “Dear Singaporeans, Thanks A Million” campaign as part of the bigger marketing initiative ‘Open to the new Shades’.

Dressed in a “I Love SG” tee-shirt, Angela landed in Bangkok at 6.21 pm onboard Thai Airways flight TG414 a Boeing 777-300 aircraft with aircraft registration HS-TKC. The late arrival of the aircraft was due to late departure from Singapore Changi Airport due to bad weather. Mr Nivat Chantarachoti, Thai Airways Singapore Office General Manager was on board the flight with Angela.

Angela was escorted from the aircraft to a welcome ceremony at Bangkok Suvarnabhumi Airport landside where she was welcomed by H.E. Weerasak Kowsurat, Thailand’s Minister of Tourism and Sports and Mr. Chattan Kunjara Na Ayudhya, TAT Deputy Governor for International Marketing – Asia and the South Pacific, Mr. Kajorndet Apichartraku, the Director of TAT Singapore Office and other representatives from the public and private tourism related organisations.

TAT presented Angela with a five-day/four-night “Thanks a Million” tour package to Bangkok – Chiang Mai – Chiang Rai. The prize includes accommodation, transfers and guide for Angela and her companion.

In 2019, TAT plans to promote Northern Thailand, highlighting secondary cities of Chiang Rai, Lampang and Lamphun, which are easily accessible on direct Singapore to Chiang Mai flights.

Thai Airways has sponsored return airfares for two on the Singapore – Bangkok – Chiang Mai route along with fast track services. Thai Airways operates five flights between Singapore and Bangkok daily. King Power has sponsored a THB100.000 duty-free shopping voucher, two night’s accommodation at Pullman King Power Bangkok, and a family pass to the King Power Mahanakhon SkyWalk.

Siam Piwat sponsored a Siam Gift shopping card and VIZ privilege card entitled at Siam Paragon, Siam Discovery and ICON Siam as well as vouchers for a dining and cooking workshop at Sook Siam Market.
