The Doubletree by Hilton Bangkok Ploenchit opened its doors in end September 2019 replacing what used to be Majestic Grande Sukhumvit Hotel. The 251-room property is located in the heart of Bangkok. It is also the third DoubleTree hotel in Thailand after DoubleTree by Hilton Sukhumvit Bangkok and DoubleTree by Hilton Phuket Banthai Resort.
This property joins five other Hilton hotels in Bangkok including the Hilton Sukhumvit Bangkok, Millennium Hilton Bangkok, DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel Sukhumvit Bangkok, Waldorf Astoria Bangkok and the Conrad Bangkok Residences.
This hotel is located on the same peaceful street as the JW Marriott Bangkok. The parallel street Sukhumvit 4 Alley is a more vibrant street with massage outlets and convenience stores. I prefer a more peaceful street as I rather not be bothered by touts for massage services.
The hotel is walking distance to Ploenchit and Nana BTS train station. It is also close to malls like Terminal 21, EmQuartier, Siam Paragon amongst others. Suvarnabhumi Airport and Don Mueang International Airport is just 35 minutes drive away.
Step into the renovated building, and you will get a warm welcome with a spacious lobby. The backdrop at the check-in area is created with two million pieces of individually folder newspapers, reflecting the daily life of Bangkok. And if you spot the art installation of multiple layers of glass and newspaper, those depict buildings in Bangkok.
OPEN}, the hotel’s all-day dining restaurant that serves breakfast as well as international and authentic local cuisine during lunch and dinner is on the right opposite the check-in counters.
Save up to 25% off* Hilton Hotels across Asia Pacific! Book now.Just like any other Doubletree by Hilton hotel, you get a warmed-up Doubletree Cookie when you check-in. The signature chocolate-chip cookie are so addictive cookies. You can buy a tin of these cookies at the Restaurant to bring back fond memories home.
Not all the 251 guest rooms were ready when I went on a site visit of the hotel in October 2019.
The rooms in levels 20 to 24 have been renovated to reflect the DoubleTree standard. When it is fully refurbished, there will be 11 stylish suites and 240 guest rooms from level 8 to 25.
Room categories include Twin Superior Room, Twin Guest Room City View, Twin Guest Room, Twin Deluxe Room, King Superior Room, King Premium Room, King Guest Room City View, King Guest Room, and King Deluxe Room. Premium rooms average 36 sqm, Superior rooms average 40 sqm and the other room categories average 28 sqm.
Suites range from 70 to 240 sqm. There are three types of suites – One bedroom King Suite, One bedroom King Terrace Suite and Two bedroom King Terrace suite. We understanding that three suites with private balconies are scheduled to open in January 2020.
The previous all-day dining outlet at the previous Majestic Grande Sukhumvit Hotel will be converted into an Executive Lounge which is scheduled to open in 2020.
Smoking rooms are available from levels 15 to 18.
The rooms here are spacious with a working desk, built-in universal USB-enabled plug points, 40 to 43 – inch HDTV a minibar, fridge and in-room laptop-size safe.
The shower facilities in the room look spacious with some rooms offering bathtubs and separate showers while others only had rain showers. Crabtree & Evelyn toiletries and soft plush bath towels are provided to hotel guests.
