Club Med will open a new Resort, Club Med Borneo Kota Kinabalu in Sabah late 2022. (Updated as of December 2022: Club Med Borneo Kota Kinabalu to open in Sabah late 2023.)
It will be Club Med’s first large-scale sustainably built BREEAM-certified beach resort in Asia Pacific and also Malaysia’s second Club Med resort after Club Med Cherating Beach in Pahang. The partnership with Building Research Establishment from the outset will create a benchmark for Club Med to construct new resorts that meet stringent Building Research Establishment Environmental Assessment Method (BREEAM) standards.
Traditional Borneo ethnic cultures will be the design inspiration while integrating with the surrounding rainforest.
The resort will be located next to a mangrove reserve. Guests can enjoy island hopping to the beautiful Pulau Tiga, a river ride showcasing Sabah’s diverse wildlife and ecosystem as well as an adrenaline-pumping white-water river rafting adventure. Guests can also enjoy evening dance shows, traditional rug and jewellery making and interactive culinary classes and coffee tastings.
There will be 360 spacious rooms across various categories for Club Med Premium Resort and 40 luxury suites for the Club Med Exclusive Collection space (5 Tridents Space). An all-day buffet restaurant will serve international cuisines as well as “Gourmet Lounge” and an a la carte specialty restaurant that is included in Club Med’s all-inclusive offer. A free-flow bar with integrated entertainment space showcasing Club Med’s signature circus and musical shows and a pool bar dedicated to the Exclusive Collection Space will keep guests hydrated and mildly inebriated. There will be a full range of Club Med facilities including up to 30 types of land and water sports activities and excursions to discover Kota Kinabalu and Sabah.
