ZIPAIR Tokyo – the birth of a new Medium to Long-Haul Low-Cost Carrier in Japan

ZIPAIR Tokyo Co. Ltd was established on 8 March 2019 and is preparing to launch during the summer schedule of 2020. ZIPAIR Tokyo will be Japan’s first medium to long-haul low-cost carrier. This is according to a press release sent out by Japan Airlines today.

The airline name is a coined from the English word ZIP, describing speed. In this case, how fast time can pass when travelling on a unique airline. It incorporates the idea of travelling to destinations in various Zip Codes, while aiming to create a calculated travel experience that encompasses the originality and ingenuity of the Japanese culture. Tokyo was added to the name since the airline will be based in this city.

ZIPAIR Tokyo Co. Ltd applied for an air operator’s certificate with the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport on 8 March 2019. Contents of the air operator’s certificate application indicates that the business will operate Boeing 787-8 Dreamliners between Narita and Bangkok Suvarnabhumi Airport as well as Narita and Seoul-Incheon International Airport from the 2020 summer schedule.
