Economy Class travellers flying Qatar Airways to and from Singapore will now be able to enjoy larger food portions with premium items, featuring more fresh, local and seasonal produce.
Introduced recently on 17 October 2019, the new Quisine onboard dining experience is now available on Singapore – Doha flights QR945, QR943 and QR947 as well as Doha – Singapore flights QR946, QR944 and QR942. The 23-year-old airline has been serving Singapore for 15 years.
At a meal presentation event held at SATS Inflight Catering Centre, Qatar Airways’ inflight catering provider in Singapore on 9 October 2019, I got to try out the new inflight meal for lunch.
The appetiser was Barley and Pomegranate Salad with Foccacia Bread. I had the Fish cooked in Padang curry and served with steamed rice and sautéed vegetables. That was very tasty and appetising. If only I could have seconds or perhaps try the other option of Singapore Chicken Rice. Dessert was a Vanilla panna cotta with mango sauce and butter crumble.
Quisine was first announced in April this year and has been launched with a phased introduction across the Qatar Airways network.
Highlights of the New Quisine Economy Class Dining Experience
- Increase in 20% portion sizes for appetisers
- 25% increase for main courses
- 50% increase for desserts
- Godiva Chocolate served with meal service
- Individual bottled water for Economy Class travellers
- Sparkling wine and a variety of cocktail choices
- Pre-dinner drinks are now served on flights over five hours
The airline is committed to being more environmentally conscious. Single-use plastics onboard has also been reduced where 80% of the tray items comply with this ban. A 80% increase in recyclable and biodegradable products are being used onboard with the introduction of Quisine.
A newly redesigned menu with a service timeline on all long-haul and ultra-long-haul flights will be handed to guests so that they can plan their journey and mealtimes. Each box features a savoury bun and a muffin.
The kids’ meal boxes are too cute and filled with lots of goodies handpicked by 50 children from 15 different countries in a study group with the catering team. Each kids’ meal features a selection of healthy juices, snacks and fruits packed in an exciting box and complete with a surprise toy to keep the young ones happy. Travellers can keep these boxes and bring them along when disembarking. A main course dish is also served with these meal boxes, making it somewhat a viable meal option for adults too.
QSuites on All Singapore-Doha Flights Launched In 2019
In March this year, Qatar Airways deployed aircraft for flights between Singapore and Doha featuring Qsuites. In July this year, all three Qatar Airways flights have been equipped with the airline’s latest QSuites in Business Class, replacing the previous Collins Super Diamond Seats.
Qsuite features the world’s first-ever Business Class double bed with privacy panels that stow away, allowing passengers in adjoining seats to create their own private room. Adjustable panels and movable TV monitors on the centre four seats allow friends, families or colleagues travelling together to transform the space into a private suite, allowing them to do things together. Each seat features hand-stitched Italian leather and satin rose gold finishing.
On 3 December 2018, I boarded a parked Qatar Airways A350-1000 aircraft at Changi Airport for a tour of the QSuite and dinner onboard. Qatar Airways took delivery of their first of 42 A350-1000 on 20 February 2018. Compared to the A350-900, the A350-1000 features 44 extra seats, with a two-class cabin of 46 QSuite Business Class seats in a 1-2-1 configuration.
A new food and beverage concept, with a menu that offers new dining choices were also introduced at the launch of Qsuites. In addition to the ‘dine on demand’ service, the Business Class menu offers a selection of snack ‘sharing dishes’ available throughout the flight. A wake-up Express breakfast is also available to guests who prefer to sleep a little longer by making the most of the ‘Do Not Disturb’ option available on the door of their private QSuite.
