Changi Airport Group has awarded its core-category Liquor & Tobacco concession tender to Lotte Duty Free (Lotte).
In June 2020, Lotte will take over from DFS who has been the incumbent in this key concession since the opening of Changi Airport. Lotte will manage the 18 liquor and tobacco stores across the four terminals at Changi Airport spanning over 8,000 sqm of retail space.
The stores will be rejuvenated with fresh designs to appeal to both the connoisseur and new consumer segments, in particular, the millennials. The store facade of the iconic Terminal 3 Liquor and Tobacco duplex store will be fully revamped to maximise visual impact and visibility into both levels of the store. All stores will be infused with lifestyle elements and packed with experiential activations, such as product personalisation in the form of customised whiskey-blending. There will also be new and exciting liquor boutique concepts and specially curated zones featuring the latest and trendiest products in the market. Large scale consumer events will continue to exist.
Lotte’s proposal from the tender which closed on 26 August 2019 stood out with its strong omnichannel and marketing ideas. Lotte is the world’s second-largest travel retailer in terms of sales turnover, with extensive experience in the travel retail industry including the liquor & tobacco segment in markets such as Australia, Japan, New Zealand, South Korea and Vietnam.
Lotte has won many awards over the years for its branding, marketing and customer satisfaction, the latest of which is the technology Success Story of the Year by Frontier Awards held in Cannes, France.
The transition towards the start of the new concession will be planned carefully with both DFS and Lotte. Renovation works in the stores will be conducted in phases to minimise customer inconvenience.
