The maiden flight of AirAsia’s first Airbus A321neo from Kuala Lumpur arrived this morning at Changi Airport Terminal 4 at 8.07 am, around 15 minutes ahead of schedule.

The brand new aircraft was introduced in November to boost the budget carrier’s seat capacity for the Kuala Lumpur – Singapore sector. It has 236 seats and over 10% fuel savings, providing significant operational efficiencies.

AirAsia will deploy its A321neo on three of the 12 daily flights between the two cities. This will bring the weekly seat capacity to a total of 19,348 seats.

It has flown over 1 million passengers on this sector with 24% being Singapore passport holders, recording a steady 14% increase year-on-year.

The AirAsia Group will replace its existing fleet of A320 and A320neo with the A321neo aircraft for its network covering Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia, the Philippines, India and Japan.
