Royal Group and Accor announced the opening of a second Raffles Hotel in Singapore today at the Sofitel Singapore Sentosa Resort & Spa. The resort is designed by Yabu Pushelberg Studio which was founded by George Yabu and Glenn Pushelberg in 1980 with offices in New York and Toronto.

Raffles Sentosa Resort and Spa Singapore is slated to open in 2022 with 61 villas on 100,000 sqm of tropical gardens. The new-built resort will be located in the plot of land that currently sits the tennis court and engineering building for Sofitel Singapore Sentosa Resort & Spa.

Each villa will have its own private outdoor pool, a living pavilion, a sleeping pavilion, and terrace area. Villas will range in size from 260 sqm for the one-bedroom villas to 450 sqm for the four-bedroom villa.

The villas have been created as a private oasis for indoor and outdoor living. They are inspired by contemporary Singaporean living with touches of tradition through the furnishing.

When guests arrive at the Raffles Sentosa Resort & Spa, they will be greeted by a waterfall. A small trail of trees frame views of the arrival building. The small details such as the crushed granite path that leads to the Porte Cochere and qualities of the arrival are reminiscent of the entrance experience at the original Raffles on Beach Road. The Arrival Building pays tribute to the classic design of the original Raffles façade. At night, the building transforms, enhancing the silhouette of the building.

Step into the Arrival Building and you will see the Writers Bar, an open salon for tea and cocktails. The bar frames views to the outdoors where a heritage tree rests in the centre of the jungle with a wall of water to hold it.

The ballroom will include two meeting rooms, a small ballroom with a pre-function area that can be used as separate entities or come together to become one complete experience. The ballroom will be surrounded by glass with panoramic views out onto the island habitat. The glass screens create a dappled light that resembles light shining through tree leaves in a forest.

The Specialty Restaurant will offer the most refined dining experience on the property. You will have to access by way of the roof. Enjoy cocktail under the stars. Stairs guide guests to the main dining room buried below. The restaurant becomes one with the forest. Each table looks out onto lanterns hanging in vast treetops.

The Bridge is a feature of Yabu Pushelberg’s landscape design. It contributes to the overall energy of the island. It offers an intimate setting for guests to meander the grounds and discover moments of calm introspection amongst the islands scenery. It is a focal point from the pool deck and the other restaurant in the resort – Three-Meal Restaurant.

Royal Group which currently owns Sofitel Singapore Sentosa Resort & Spa and So Sofitel Singapore is behind this new development.

Raffles first opened its first hotel at Beach Road in Singapore over 135 years ago. The Raffles Singapore is undergoing a major refurbishment and is expected to open 1 August 2019 with three celebrity Chef dining venues in addition to Ah Teng’s Cafe, Long Bar, Raffles Courtyard, Butcher’s Blok, The Grand Lobby, Tiffin Room and Writers Bar.
