InterContinental Hotels & Resorts celebrates 200 InterContinental Hotels around the world including the upcoming InterContinental Shanghai Wonderland on 15 November 2018 with an art installation of 200 Champagne bottles individually hand painted by Alexander Hall. Each bottle is inspired by the 200 InterContinental hotels. The finished bottles are suspended together in an oeuvre to reveal the number 200. This installation will be displayed for a limited time at a number of InterContinental hotels around the world over the course of the next few months. The artist will also be creating a bespoke Haut de Gamme painting to commemorate the milestone, with a number of limited edition prints.

Alexander Hall, Haut de Gamme, commented: “When I first started painting champagne bottles I just wanted it to make people feel something positive. Champagne for me means happiness, joy, celebration and the idea of bringing people together. That’s why I decided to paint on champagne bottles to celebrate the 200 InterContinental hotels. I wanted the bottles to reflect each InterContinental hotel’s unique personality, design and location, as well as the legacy and pioneering spirit of the founder, Juan Trippe. It’s been an honour to be asked to do this project and I hope that when I’m 80, I will be asked to celebrate 400 InterContinental hotels around the world.”

The 336 luxury guest-room and suites InterContinental Shanghai Wonderland is located in a former Shenkang quarry at Sheshan Mountain Range in south-western Shanghai. The 18 storey hotel has two floors above ground and 16 below that stretches 88 metres below altitude. Two floors are underwater. The hotel has been built directly into the side wall of a quarry decommissioned for over a decade. The hotel is 30km from Hongqiao Airport and close to attractions such as Sheshan National Park and Chenshan Botanic Gardens.
