Cathay Pacific Opens The Deck Lounge at Hong Kong Airport

The Deck, Cathay Pacific’s newest launch at Hong Kong International Airport, opened on 22 March 2018, replacing the G16 Lounge, previously used for Cathay Dragon  (previously known as Dragonair) flights. The Deck is a much-reduced version of The Pier, The Wing or The Bridge lounges at the airline’s home hub in Hong Kong. Cathay Pacific has four business class lounges and 2 First Class lounges at Hong Kong International Airport. The Deck’s 823 sqm has been decked up in the same design and Studioilse concept with a capacity of 186 guests.

What’s new and unique here is The Terrace, an open-ceiling L-shaped verandah on the eastern side of the terminal building. It has the same concept of a balcony in a home where you can enjoy panoramic views away an otherwise crowded or cluttered room.

Take a sit here and enjoy views of aircraft parked at the gates, taxiways and the northern runway.  The airport’s high ceiling and floor to ceiling windows offer unblocked views that will wow air travellers every time they are here.

There are seven shower suites featuring AESOP amenities that will pamper your skin and keep you smelling refreshed and relaxed. One of the many reasons why I enjoy taking a shower at Cathay Pacific’s airport lounges in any part of the world.

Get away from the busy lounge in a relaxation room with six SOLO lounge chairs. It is located on the way from the dining area to the shower rooms.

The main dining area has seats for two or up to four. There are also communal benches and long tables where you can share a meal with other fellow diners, a common practice in Hong Kong’s space-constrained cha chaan teng.

Cathay Pacific – The Deck – Hong Kong International Airport – Noodle Bar dishesThe signature noodle bar serves up four types of soup noodles including Wonton Noodles, Dan Dan Noodles, Fish Ball Noodles and Japanese-style vegetarian noodles prepared on demand.

A selection of Dim Sum can be ordered from the Noodle Bar including the BBQ Pork Bun, Beef Siu Mai, Pork and Shrimp Siu Mai, Har Gau and Steamed Creamy Custard Bun. That Beef Siu Mai is a personal favourite.

Adjacent to the Noodle Bar is a self-service buffet counter offering a selection of wines and champagne, soft drinks & hot beverages as well as hot Western and international dishes.

Cathay Pacific has also partnered Sodexo to develop special menus at its six airport lounges at Hong Kong International Airport including The Deck, replacing Plaza Premium, its previous vendor. Sodexo has been operating in Hong Kong SAR since 1991 with over 1,000 employees across 60 sites. Its clients include corporate, airline lounges, international schools and universities. Sodexo’s Airline Lounge Services portfolio of services include on-site services, benefits and rewards services and personal and home services.

 

Cathay Pacific has recently introduced a new scent for its lounges, made from a blend of lavender, bamboo, green tea and jasmine. I do prefer the old scent though.

The Deck is open from 5.30am to 12.30am daily for First & Business Class customers, silver tier and above Marco Polo Club members or members and their guests with lounge passes and oneworld Emerald and Sapphire members.
