Lufthansa will be introducing ‘a la carte dining’ meals on long-haul flights for Economy and Premium Economy class passengers from May 2018. Passengers will be able to order from a selection of seven meals from the menu for an extra charge costing between 19 and 33 euros. This does not replace the existing food and drink service.
The multi-course menus will be available on almost all its intercontinental flights from Frankfurt and Munich and are served on order instead of the regular first meal. You can book your ‘a la carte dining’ meals on lufthansa.com up to 24 hours before departure.
The menu will include a variety to choose from and dishes will be served on stylish porcelain. The menu includes grilled steak, Bento Box with a selection of classic Japanese sushi specialities, hearty Bavarian snacks, Asian vitality menu with quinoa, Mediterranean pasta with shrimp or Thai curry.
It received its seventh A350-900 aircraft (D-AIXG). It took off on its first scheduled flight on 1 February. The airline will be offering six new destinations with the A350-900 in the summer flight schedule with Seoul starting from 1 February. It will fly to New York (EWR), Chicago and Denver from 25 March and from Munich to Singapore from 27 March.
The A350-900 seats 293 passengers – 48 in Business, 21 in Premium Economy and 224 in Economy.
From 7 March, you can book your Economy Class seat in the preferred seat zone in the first rows of Economy Class on long-haul flights at a distance-based fee ranging from 30 to 50 euros per segment. This fee is waived for HON Circle Members and Senators depending on availability.
Last month, the German national carrier revealed its new, modernised brand image as part of the airline’s modernisation efforts and its 100th anniversary of the crane that was designed by graphic artist Otto Firle. The new brand now excludes the traditional yellow tone on its aircraft livery while a darker blue becomes the leading brand colour and will be applied to the boarding pass and every Lufthansa counter at the airport among other things.
In the cabin, guests will encounter the modernized design within the crew’s uniform in the form of new – and often yellow – accessories. On-board articles such as tableware, amenity kits, blankets or pillowcases will carry the new design in future. Around 160 million items will be exchanged over the next two years.
