Singaporeans take an average 3.1 international trips per year

Singaporean travellers took an average of 3.1 international trips in the last 12 months, according to a global Travel and Tech Study commissioned by Agoda with responses from 11,762 Asia-Pacific respondents aged 18 to 64 collected between 27 February and 17 April 2017. Singaporeans picked Bangkok, Johor Bahru and Batam Island as their top five travel destinations.

We visited Batam Island this year where we stayed at the newly opened Radisson Golf and Convention Centre Batam and were treated to a street food journey. We can understand why Singaporeans would like to take a short vacation away from the busy city life to enjoy life at a slower and relaxing pace.

But I did a poll with my friends, and they seem to be travelling quite a bit and also to rather exotic destinations such as Iran & Ukraine. Some have seem to go on a world tour in a year. One friend visited Tokyo, Hanoi, Bangkok, Beijing, Kuala Lumpur, Bangkok, Seoul, Melbourne, Rome and New York all within a year! Another travelled to Vietnam, South Korea, Thailand, Malaysia, Portugal, Spain, China and again to Vietnam this year.

Compared to the other countries in Asia Pacific, Singapore’s average 3.1 overseas trips per year is the highest. The Thais travel domestic trips more frequently than overseas trips. They are also the most keen travellers overall. Indonesians and Filipinos tend to take local breaks with family and friends. The Malaysians rate Kuala Lumpur, Penang and Malacca as their top three domestic destinations.
